30 Things Every Woman Should Have and Should Know by the Time She’s 30. With advice, wisdom, and observations from a diverse group of well-known and beloved women, 30 Things is a must-have guide (and the ideal gift) for women approaching the age of thirty—and for those who have already arrived!
Glamour published a list of distinct yet universally true must-haves and must-knows for women approaching and beyond the age of thirty fifteen years ago, titled “30 Things Every Woman Should Have and Know by the Time She’s 30.” It developed into a phenomenon.
Originally written by Glamour columnist Pamela Redmond Satran, The List gained a second life when women began forwarding it millions of times online. It became a viral sensation, with misattributions ranging from Maya Angelou to Hillary Clinton—but there is only one authentic list, and it has stood the test of time. The List defines the absolute must-haves (#11: “A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra”) and must-knows (#1: “How to fall in love without losing yourself”) for mature female happiness.
Now, Glamour magazine has gathered its editors and an incredible group of notable women to write wise, thoughtful, and intimate essays about each item on The List. Kathy Griffin reflects on the importance of knowing when to push harder and when to back away. Lisa Ling explores the notion that while your childhood may not have been perfect, it has passed, and Lauren Conrad discusses what she has learned about what she would and would not do for money or love. Maya Angelou, Rachel Zoe, Taylor Swift, Katie Couric, Portia de Rossi, Kelly Corrigan, ZZ Packer, Bobbi Brown, Padma Lakshmi, and Angie Harmon all contribute personal insights.
Along with essays based on The List, writers discuss what turning thirty meant to them. Women of all ages will turn to 30 Things for timely and timeless wisdom.
